After building up to it in MoS, he completely backtracked in BVS and only used it in that "Day of the Dead" variation (and even then that was just a dark variation on the theme). As always, there is so much more to Hans’ work than what you pick up on the first listen. Hulk (Bruce Banner) If Zimmer will make Superman his focus here, he BETTER make sure to develop his theme a good deal! I call the first form of the theme Lament since it is always scored plaintively in the French horn, or cello with voice, lending the scene a feeling of grief. 2013’s Man of Steel takes quite a different approach to the Superman story than 1978’s well known Superman: The Movie.
