Seriously!? This wouldn't work because the crew is not able to interact with the subjects. It is just cringeworthy. This is more along the lines of my overall thought. It would've been awesome if Pam hooked up with the sound guy, leading to Jim starting a physical alteraction and getting fired + a feleony assault charge; then it is revealed that the editors had held back footage showing Toby to be the Scranton Strangler after Meredith fucks a PA in the editing bay; and then the sound guy's ex (also on the crew) leaks audio of Michael saying the n-word. I think Pam was so upset because she felt betrayed by the documentary crew and Brian by extension.

Probably my favorite show ever but I can't get over how overstaffed Dunder Mifflin is.
It angers me to no end. And they were at a point in their marriage by Season 9 - a few years in, two small children running around - where even the strongest bond is legitimately tested by the day to day grind. I never understood how Pam could've been so shocked by that.
The Cracked investigative team blows the mystery of the Scranton Strangler wide open. season 9 was just weird with how the documentary was a key part in the plot. I have not googled or researched this thought so if there has been multiple discussions about this I apologize ahead of time... My opinion is that the writers just wanted to cause more bumps in the road for Jim and Pam and since they were already at a rocky point with Jim moving to Philly, the vulnerability of their relationship could have easily been drawn to sparking an affair with Brian and Pam. Brian was a part of the crew since before the first episode. It just seems like they were setting her up for something with Brian and then decided not to. The show ran for nearly 10 years so instead of abruptly ending it, they slowly reinforce the idea that first and foremost, the whole premise of the show is that it's a documentary in their world. I think it was just also a ruse to ultimately strengthen the Jim and Pam story. It seems ridiculous to you that he would do this, and it is. . The Office is my favorite show but the forcing of Brian the sound guy as a character was just terrible. Sorry that just sort of came into my head. But no, let him go.
I go back and watch The Office from Season 1 to Season 7-ish and never bring myself to go through Season 9 again. That's why it's such a big deal that he jumped in, both for Pam and Jim's relationship and for his job status. The fact that she was betrayed by him did seem kind of out of place though, I agree. It was super awkward the whole time while they were outside on the deck...and Pam seemed really uneasy and worried when Brian told her they were able to pick up tons of footage that the office staff would never have thought of, It seemed like she was pissed and upset that he was her close friend and he betrayed her trust... but then again she is being filmed by a documentary crew...there is not much privacy to be assumed anyway. Sound guy? HOLD UP BOYS!!!
That's actually an awesome idea, now I wish we could've seen that. I agree with you in the larger context of the show, but it was made clear before season 9 started that they were going to take things in a different direction with regard to acknowledging the fact that a crew has been making a documentary the entire time we've been watching.

Jim and Pam, THE COUPLE THAT HAS THE STRONGEST RELATIONSHIP ON THE SHOW WHICH YOU HAVE BEEN DOCUMENTING FOR HOWEVER MANY YEARS SO YOU KNOW THEY HAVE THE STRONGEST RELATIONSHIP ON THE SHOW, is going through a little rough patch adjusting to a new life style. I hate that Pam interacts with Brian towards the end of the show. I can live with it. It ended up showing just how strong their relationship was and it definitely made us all think 'Something is going on there maybe...'. Season 9 had a ton of problems. It was just a little bit of a tease and that was it. And besides, the whole Athlead/Athleap drama, imperfect though it was, was sufficient on its own to show the stress in Jim and Pam's relationship. I'll admit that the whole storyline, starting with that scene, was painfully contrived, but the last three or four seasons contain a lot of contrived situations. The writers/directors were clearly trying to illustrate the idea that they were just two different people with different lives filming a documentary together, instead of merely being characters in the show The Office - in this way, the show ending makes a lot more sense than randomly announcing in one episode: "we're done filming guys, let's wrap up.".

It’s only been four years. The only positive outcome is Kevin's explanation of Pam's hatred of monster mash. Andy being shitty to Erin, Jim and Pam being on the brink of divorce, Darryl and Val suddenly breaking up, Angela being borderline homeless, Nellie being shoehorned into being pathetic and then likable, Pam and the boom mic guy, and many other arcs that were not at all inline with the previous 8 seasons. I have missed feelings about that first scene with Brian. That was their way of indirectly thanking the viewers. i think the cameramen would have kept filming the scenes you mentioned because they were getting good material out of it for the documentary. SHE'S CRYING. Brian is the external man who has a crush on Pam but is unable to interact with her. It's not like it's a good season but you have to do better than that. Also, not buying that a company like Dunder Mifflin would be headquarter in Manhattan. You're forgetting that Brian had become really good friends with Jim and Pam at this point. If you have already grown tired of Jim then the entire Athleap story line drags on forever. Anyways, let's discuss the moments that actually may have required the camera crew to step in. It would've bothered me a lot less if it wasn't introducing some weird relationship drama. In my opinion there's more interaction not "filmed" in the previous seasons, this is just the first time we (the audience) get to see some of the people behind the camera. I mean, if I had to guess, Jim will get his act together and fight for his wife. Why on earth do they need 3 accountants, customer service (kelly), quality assurance (creed), and an office manager (pam). Sorry for the rant. This also serves as being a significant reason for Jim to be upset, as Brian clearly has feelings for Pam. He becomes real in the world of the documentary, in Pam's world, which is, on some level, a fantasy of the viewer.
